How would you answer this: “so, what is it that you do in Solution Focused Conversation?” I heard people say “oh, it’s leading from behind”, “we take a not-knowing stance”, “we ask good questions,” just to name a few popular replies. Some academics said “we co-construct meaning with the client in session” while other practitioners said “we do more of what works.” What may be intriguing next is to ask “what does that look and sound like in conversation?”
In this workshop, we will work with visible and audible data to augment these interpretive impressions that we have of our own work. We will work with recordings and transcripts of our own sessions to inductively learn what form changes, how those forms function, and how we develop interactional fluency in making meaning together. We will use a metamodel of interaction – Dialogic Orientation Quadrant – to study your conversations from different perspectives. You will learn practical ways to use this inductive model to become an even better observer of your own work.

The workshop will be useful for you, if you are:

  • a (highly) experienced coach or therapist, who wants to gain new perspective and be more conscious about how you create value for your clients
  • a (near) beginner coach/therapist who wishes to see a model you might easily use even in difficult situations
  • so eager, and can’t wait to be your own observer or watch what your clients see and hear when you are working
  • interested in gaining practical knowledge with the process of microanalysis of face-to-face dialogue
  • a trainer of coaches who would like refresh yourself and your methodological toolkit to help your learners more effectively
